People often move to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune, but increasingly, we’re seeing stories of celebrities leaving the Tinseltown bubbles to focus more on faith, family, and life outside of the public eye.

Frankie Muniz, star of the 2000s hit sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” recently opened up about why he left Hollywood after the show ended. The child star confessed that his life could have turned out very differently considering how fleeting and destructive the limelight can be.

“I think for a lot of people, it’s probably difficult to go from having such success at a young age where you always have people going like, ‘Oh, I love you,’ and everyone wanting you here and there. And then that starts to fade,” he explained in a recent interview.

Muniz recognizes that fame isn’t the pinnacle goal we should be striving for in this life, but that our life is intended for a deeper purpose. His change of heart reminds us of the Bible verse:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Muniz made the decision early on in his life to never drink or do drugs, but said that he understands why others turn to those things to fill a void. In fact, the actor-turned-professional racecar driver acknowledged that “so many people go down a bad path” because they feel like something is missing in their lives.

“A lot of people try to replace the missing feeling of [being] wanted with something else. And that really is a negative for a lot of people,” Muniz added.

1 Peter 5:8 emphasizes Muniz’s outlook on staying sober to avoid falling into a pattern of sin:

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

But it’s not just child stars and celebrities who face these issues. The world is full of people in search of human approval or who turn to external vices to fill internal voids.

Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? --  Isaiah 55:2 (NIV)

Thankfully, the Bible is clear that true fulfillment can only be found in Christ alone. And those who are willing to surrender their lives to Jesus will find the wholeness they are seeking.

Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’ -- John 6:35 (NIV)
