Pop star Justin Bieber reflected over the weekend on his much-publicized arrest that unfolded seven years ago, offering a raw lens into the hurt and pain he was feeling at the time — and an encouraging message about God's love.
Bieber, who took to Instagram to share a photo of police escorting him in handcuffs, noted in the description that the moment wasn't his "finest hour," and proceeded to discuss some of the realizations he has since had about God.
"I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at God," Bieber said of his life at that juncture. "All this to say God has brought me a long way."
And the singer, who has increasingly spoken out about his Christian faith, said that he now realizes something important about his relationship with the Lord.
"God was as close to me then as he is right now," Bieber said, adding positive words for others who might be struggling today. "My encouragement to you is to let your past be a reminder of how far God has brought you. Don’t allow shame to ruin your 'today.'"
Bieber continued, "Let the forgiveness of Jesus take over and watch your life blossom into all that God has designed you to be."
As Pure Flix Insider previously reported, Bieber has been outspoken about his faith, often using social media as a vehicle to share messages about Jesus.
Last year, he shared powerful images of his baptism alongside wife Hailey Bieber, a message about why "Jesus is our hope," and other inspiring proclamations about faith and the gospel.
