Justina Miller

Justina Miller grew up as a full time musician in a band with her sister. At eighteen she took her creativity to a University setting where she studied poetry at George Mason University and Oxford University in England. After college, Justina worked in campus ministry leadership with FOCUS at Vanderbilt University. There, she mentored students while fundraising her entire salary.

Justina went on to volunteer at an orphanage in India, and came back to the states to run conferences for FOCUS. In 2012, she returned to her musical roots to perform in DC as a jazz singer and maintained freelance writing gigs for columns, copywriting, screenplays, and ghostwriting for a major publication.

Recently, Justina has settled in New York City where she performs in local venues, continues to freelance, and runs crowdfunding, email marketing, and social media management for the Chiaroscuro Foundation.

Astronaut Gene Cernan: 'The Earth moves with logic and purpose.'

Capt. Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, died earlier this week in a Houston hospital. In his 82 years, Cernan logged more than 566 hours in space, but his 1972 visit to the moon had the greatest impact on him. He described looking back at the Earth as if he were gazing from “God’s front porch,” an experience that convinced Cernan that a Creator of the universe exists.

“That Dragon, Cancer,” a video game created by Ryan Greene, who lost his son to cancer, took home the Games For Impact award at The Game Awards last week. Ryan and game co-creator, Josh Larson, came up with “That Dragon, Cancer” six years ago, when Ryan and Amy Green’s son, Joel, was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of one.

United We Stand: Restoring the Unity We Had Days After 9/11

Each September 11th, we remember the atrocities that are so painful to resurrect in our mind's eye. We think of parents who didn’t take the train home, kids who will always remember their firefighting dads as heroes, so many last “I love you’s,” and even more that are still said but only heard by ears in heaven.

We also remember the spirit that came about after the rubble: tiny American flags tucked into so many random spaces, big flags waving on every storefront, candle lit services, prayers said in unison, and hands clutching a stranger’s. Then there’s the famous phrase that made it onto a postage stamp: “United We Stand.”
